This figurine was made in Japan - circa 1930-1940. The ash tray has a wooden top that functions perfectly. The interior of the ashes pot is clean, so it does not appear to have been used for an ash tray - merely a wonderful conversational piece.
This donkey with ash tray is unique from others I have seen because the legs are all separate and are not a part of a grass base.
On one side it has ASHES stamped on it. On the bottom it has JAPAN stamped on it.
Measures approximately 5" long by 3" high at the tallest point of the donkey's ears
